Sandra’s Day Shelter for Youth

Sandra’s Youth Day Shelter will be the second method by which the homeless youth shelter delivers services. Sandra’s Youth Day Shelter will operate five days a week from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Here, youth will be able to:

Take showers, do laundry, get food, clothing, hygiene, and other supplies. They are also able to make phone calls and use the internet at no cost to them. Youth can receive help with a number of needs, including GED tests and classes offered through Gaston Community College, obtaining a NC ID card and Social Security Card if needed, filling out job applications along the job training in construction/remodeling homes or securing more permanent housing. We will so offer Life Skill Classes, Case Management, Addiction Counseling and Family Reunification when appropriate.

Sometimes it takes several contacts with a youth before they visit the Day Shelter. Most of the youth face serious trust and abandonment issues as well as multiple other stressors including alcohol, drugs, prostitution, mental illness and health issues.
