How You Can Help

The clients served by Discovery Home Care are at a vulnerable life stage.  Without direction and motivation, they are at risk of falling victim to negative influences or circumstances, including homelessness, violence or gangs, substance abuse, pregnancy, abuse or neglect.


Discovery Home Care, youth usually arrive with nothing but the shirts on their backs. Hosting a donation drive helps the youth of the Emergency Youth  Shelter get the items they need to survive every day. Set up a drive at your workplace, church or social group to bring an item from our Wish List.

Please note that all items should be new.

Determine the items you want to collect from our Wish List. Designate a central location for people to drop off their items and make a container specifically labeled for the drive. You can also collect items during a holiday party, birthday party or office gathering. Monetary donations and gift cards are always welcome and in many cases, they are the best option for youth to get exactly what they need in the right size.

Spread the Word

The easiest way to get people to help is to simply ask. Use any method you would normally use to share information, like emails, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and word of mouth. Let your audience know about Discovery Home Care and our mission, the youth we help and the items needed.


When your drive is completed, contact our Volunteer & Community Outreach Director in order to coordinate a drop-off time. The best times to schedule a drop-off are Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Discovery Home Care is located at 816 Peaceful Glen Road, Charlotte NC 28273 or 2429 Lynn Drive, Gastonia NC 28054.
